Choosing your photographer

There are lots of us out there and the choice can be bewildering but there are a few pointers that can make the decision easier. Choosing a good professional photographer can help your day run smoothly

Dont leave booking the photographer untill the last moment, this narrows your choice too much. Ideally you should start looking 18 months to 2 years in advance

Never book a photographer without seeing their previous work

Make sure you see at least one complete wedding and see the style and quality of the albums they use

Ask who will be shooting your wedding, it isnt always the photographer who's work you see.

Make sure you know what is included in any package price and what would be included as additional extras. Does it include the finished album and/or proofs

Do they shoot on film or digitally. How long do they keep the negatives for.

Can you view proofs online and will they be available for friends and family to view

Establish how long the photographer will be with you and whether they are shooting other weddings on the same day. You dont want them to run out of time and be late for yours or have to rush off to another wedding.

Ask whether the photographer belongs to any proffessional body (this shows a commitment to their trade at the very least)

Useful tips for the big day

When all the celebrations are over your album of photographs are there to serve as a perpetual reminder of your big day, you need to capture not just the shots of yourselves, but the essence of the day; all those little details you have so painstakingly planned, the flowers, the cake, the table decorations.

Ensure that you establish with your photographer, before the wedding day, the style of photography you require and any special shots you want

Remember that to get the picture you want you will have to allow enoough time, this is something you should discuss beforehand with your photographer. Even reportage style photography may need a little "arranging" at times

For the Bride, even f you dont normally wear much makeup you will need to wear a little more than usual. The camera, especially if the day is sunny, or flash is used, will wash a lot of the colour out. This isnt to say you should look as though you are going on stage, but as if you were getting ready for a night out, but with natural colours that complement your dress and flowers. Well defined eyes, mascara is important, a little blusher and concealer if needed and a good lip colour with just a little gloss. Dont forget your hands, they will be on show as well nicely groomed nails and hand cream to keep the skin smooth, this applies to both Bride and Groom

Make sure one of the bridesmaids carries an emergency kit, makeup, cotton buds and tissues, those tears can play havoc with the mascara!; face powder, usefull if you both have a bit too much shine, especially in hot weatherand a few safety pins

Most of all....enjoy yourself, this is your day.....you are the stars!
